I would like to share some exciting news with people who will go on the Deaf Freedom Cruise 2007 this weekend! I called T-Mobile Customer Care to ask about wireless coverage on the cruise ship for the Deaf Freedom Cruise, Freedom of the Seas, the world’s largest cruise ship. T-Mobile provides roaming coverage on this ship via the Cingular/AT&T network, and I wanted to see what the costs for using my T-Mobile pager would be while on this cruise. I could not believe what the T-Mobile rep said! Apparently, data only plans for Sidekicks are included for no extra charge on this cruise! However, do not take my word for this, since the rep I spoke to might be misinformed. I suggest that you call T-Mobile to make SURE that this information is true. As for myself, I will have a different person in my office call T-Mobile again to double check.
T-Mobile charges for roaming on Cingular/AT&T on the Deaf Freedom Cruise ship “Freedom of the Seas”:
Voice service: $4.99 per minute.
Text/SMS service: 35 cents per message up to 160 characters.
Data only plans: Apparently no charge (according to T-Mobile customer care rep).
Again, we strongly suggest you contact T-Mobile before you get on the cruise ship to avoid any expensive surprises when you return home!! Also don’t forget to check T-Mobile’s roaming coverage on the landfalls that the cruise will make on its route.
If you have had good experiences with T-Mobile roaming on cruise ships, please leave a comment explaining your experience (and don’t forget the name of the cruise you went on!).
Deafpagers.com will be along on the cruise. We will have a small number of chargers and cases, just in case you forgot to bring, break, or lose yours. Don’t worry! All you need to do is to just find Drew Gutches somewhere on the ship, and you can purchase a replacement! Selection will be limited to Sidekick and BlackBerry compatible products.

I called T-mobile yesterday and I was told that the data only plans are not included on the cruise. Once the ship leaves Florida, the charge for each email downloaded is the same as text messaging. The rep also said that I would be charged for each spam mail that comes in.

i am pretty sure they have internet that you can check emails via tmobile website. that way you dont worry about charges. i could not use my pager at my brother ranch but i am able to check it via internet. it works well but it is a bit inconvinence.

H… You should watch what you are using Internet on the ship. They love to charge you $25 a hour bu use WiFi or use their computer lab. Better check your cruise’s guideline before you attempt to access to internet.

Hey!
I spoke with two different T Mobile Customer Service reps and both told me the same thing.
For email, there will be like .01 cent per minute. A very minimal charge.
Text/SMS and AIM: No charge for sending messages HOWEVER there will be .35 cents for each received messages - no matter how short or long the messages are.
As for voice - I did not bother asking about it since I dont use voice.
They told me that I was eligible for this rate because I am under Unlimted Plus plan. I have no idea what the “Plus” is. I merely pay $29.99 per month for Unlimited data plan. I dont know why they said “Plus”. Maybe that has to do with how long I have been with T Mobile?
Hope the information was given in accuracy or T Moible will have an very unhappy customer. smile
Hope that helps.
Have fun cruisin’

I live in a small town in a cozy corner of the world and T-Mobile is NO GOOD where I live.
So I go with another company. Is that so difficult to figure out?
I am not a deaf sheep and never will be.

if you are paying 29.99 for data plan… what they mean by plus… unlimiting text, unlimited emails, and AIM. While a lot of phone companies do charge for limited texting. Which you are not charged for texting. To me that is a plus. ha.

Since not all reps are giving the same answer, that means they’re all guessing. Get it in writing that you won’t be charged. Don’t take a phone call for an answer — get it in writing, and they’ll have to waive any charges above what they told you.
